APO in Orlando Review
by Sam Samaniego
It was a night of mostly “APO virgins”
of different ages who listened, sang, laughed, and lustily applauded
Danny, Jim and Boboy last May 8, 2004 at the UCF Arena in Orlando
Florida. The crowd of about 1,200 people, a mix of “new timers”
(those who have never heard of the group since they’ve been
living in the US for about thirty years), “old timers”
(those who had heard and maybe have seen the APO back in the Philippines
before immigrating to the US, and the “pure virgins”
(those who were born and grew up in the US) were surprised and delighted
at APO’s sterling performance of their many hits and gimmicks.
APO’s brand of entertainment, a two-hour
concoction of original Pilipino songs, witty spiels and musical
gimmickry which promised a “Philippine experience without
having to go through customs and immigration” was enthusiastically
lapped up by everyone.
The members of Filament, Inc., the producers
of the show gushingly remarked that “the APO had definitely
raised the bar” of quality entertainment in Orlando Florida..”They
will be the show to top!” remarked Raymond Serina. A nurse
who watched the concert commented that APO’s show was “better
than Billy Joel’s concert!” that she watched a month
before.
In explaining APO’s success, Jim explained
that “we are just three old men who can still kick ass!”
